The Dude’s new guilty pleasure is The Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel. It documents the lives of Alaskan crab fishermen which, according to the show, have the most dangerous job in the world. It boasts a death rate of 140 deaths per 100,000 workers per year (20 times higher than the national average) and an injury rate which approaches 100%- you’re virtually guaranteed to be seriously injured on the job. Balanced against that risk, an Alaskan crab fisherman could potentially make something on the order of $25k for five days work.
