It’s no secret that the AKO loves her What Not to Wear. It is one of the shows that is “must see” at Casa del The Dude, often after Attila has gone to bed. The Dude typically is sprawled out on the couch, studying highwaymen on Ye Olde Informatik Oxtrail, while the AKO is in a comfy chair, catching the show while blogging or whatever. It’s usually a pretty relaxed time, and The Dude typically is too involved in whatever he’s doing to pay any attention to the show, even though he’s in the same room. There are exceptions. In the linked episode, a complete whack-a-doodle bag-lady-dressing artist type undergoes a transformation into a total hottie (see photo at right, and yes, that is an actual “after” photo). “But The Dude”, you cry, “this show helps the fashion challenged update their look into this century, while improving their self image at the same time! Where is the harm in that?” True– absolutely true, and that is a noble goal to be strived for- The Dude completely agrees that our culture does a complete psychological whammy on women’s body image, and this show does indeed help with that. The problem? After watching this episode, The Dude realized that some unsuspecting young man is going to approach this woman, fully intent on dating her, and he’ll be completely unaware of the bucketful of crazy that she’s going to release, Alien chestburster style, on him until it’s too late. Think of the poor single men, people!! How are they going to differentiate the stable and dateable from the stark raving monster loonies?!?!? It’s like the Pod People are real…
