Any readers watching The World Series of Pop Culture? We got sucked in last year when team “El Chupacabra” (aka Chipathingy) worked their way into the finals and won the grand prize of $250,000— by answering trivia questions. Trivia questions like: On “The Brady Bunch” which Brady sibling had a favorite doll named Kitty Carryall? COME ON!!! One Quarter of One Million Dollars???!?! Hook a brother UP!
To be fair, the questions do get much harder, like: *Name ten places mentioned in the Beach Boys song “Kokomo” – other than Kokomo.**
The best part is when they ask 1980s related questions, and some of the contestants respond with a baffled look and say “I wasn’t born yet.” Nothing like that to make you realize that they don’t have the mad skillz to be in the tournament (you thought The Dude was going to say it makes him feel old- HA!) 😉 There was even a round in which The Dude’s collection of “Weird Al” Yankovic albums came in handy, to the AKO’s eternal mortification. It’s summer TV to be sure, but it’s also fun to play along. We do surprisingly well, although there are certainly categories of questions that stump us entirely. 100 Quatloos to the first person to correctly identify the origin (title and artist) of the 80s song lyrics quoted on the title line without looking it up (ie. cheating).
*Aruba, jamaica, bermuda, bahama, key largo, montego, florida keys, martinique, monserrat, and port au prince.
**No, The Dude didn’t know them all when the question was asked as a Tie Breaker.
