It’s time from another post— the leaves are starting to fall, the weather is finally starting to get into that lovely 50-60 degree daytime range, football has started, and that most wonderful of holidays is almost upon us: Halloween! There’s something about crisp fall evenings, moonlight filtering through the stark branches of leafless trees, that makes The Dude all warm and fuzzy inside. Since it’s that time of year, it might be worth pointing out that there are a few Lovecraftian movies that are either released, or coming soon. The H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society has created a 1920s style silent movie version of The Call of Cthulhu, and are working on a 1930s “talkies” version of The Whisperer in the Darkness. The Dude is interested in seeing both of these- the love for the genre and the subject matter is pretty apparent from the quality of the work they have on their website. There’s also the ultimate terror of a Tori Spelling “Cthulhu” movie where a man’s return to Innsmouth to face his non-human ancestry is used by the director as an allegory about his homosexuality and the policies of the current Administration. The Dude doesn’t think he’s going to see this one- he didn’t watch 90210 either. For those OS X owning NaNoWriMo participants- you might want to consider trying Avenir, “The Writer’s Workshop”, which looks pretty cool. The Dude downloaded a copy to run through the tutorial, and although he’s by no means a brilliant novelist, it looked like it might be useful for those who want all their character notes, etc., within easy reach. And finally, what you’ve been waiting for- new Quatloos!!! 100 Quatloos to the first person to correctly identify the origin (title and artist) of the 80s song lyrics quoted on the title line without looking it up (ie. cheating).
