The Dude and the AKO went to see the new Star Trek movie recently, and both enjoyed it immensely- the AKO went as far as to say it was her favorite Star Trek movie of all time (can’t beat Wrath of Khan, as far as The Dude is concerned). It was fun to watch some of the reconning that was done, but the one item that The Dude missed was the TNG-style shields- you know, when the ship was hit, the energy diffused across it? For some reason, that always felt “right”.

Of course as the Beeeeb correctly pointed out, it probably wouldn’t have worked terribly well with the cinematic style that was chosen for the space battles. Yeah. Geeky. Guilty as charged. The Dude talks about that sort of stuff at parties. For his next trick, a count of the number of angels on the head of a pin! 100 Quatloos to the first person to correctly identify the origin (title and artist) of the song lyrics quoted on the title line without looking it up (ie. cheating).
