The Dude debated long and hard about what he wanted to do, if anything, for this week’s entry, especially now that everyone and their grandmother has some sort of special or docudrama (mockumentary?) making the rounds. At the end of the day, something had to be said.
It’s now been half of a decade (World War II lasted about as long) since 2,996 people died as the Twin Towers fell, and the men that everyone believes were behind it are still running around free, making videos, so that everyone will be good and scared before November rolls around. Folks talk about the War on Terra, er, Terror, and how the threat presented by Al Qaeda poses a fundamental threat to our way of life, and the future of the United States. If that is the case, then the United States should do what it hasn’t done since before the Cold War: mobilize. Convert the people, the government, the economy, the whole damn country into a wartime state, with all the attendant issues that brings: shortages, the draft, and crappy earnings statements. If, in fact, all of our options have been exhausted, and this is as vital to the national interest as is claimed, then follow what was put forth by the Pentagon in the Powell Doctrine.
