Given the current economic climate, how many readers have dumped a POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) line in favor of VoIP through cable or DSL and a cell? I know Jaysan is in that camp, but he’s a tech fiend. 🙂 This discussion has been had with a couple co-workers, and the consensus is that if 911 services could be guaranteed during an emergency (power outage, etc), it’s not a bad way to go. Unfortunately, there isn’t any such guarantee… The younger coworkers especially (mostly apartment dwellers) never bothered to hook up a land line in the first place (or more properly, never bothered to contract with the ILEC to provide service) vs. the older ones. A “bonus” of this is that they aren’t often called by surveys, telemarketers, etc., but that appears to be changing (slowly). Just curious really, and FYI, even Network Operators (the technicians who *run* the telco/internet) aren’t in agreement as to which way to go.
