The Dude was really disappointed that the winner of the World Series of Pop Culture was Twisted Misters- it was the one team that he absolutely loathed throughout the entire competition. Now, goodness knows that everyone loves some good trash talking as part of a game (especially if you can back it up), but The Dude has absolutely no respect for those who substitute it for good sportsmanship. At the end of the day, win or lose, you have to understand the fact that you’re playing a game and respect the other people involved. Twisted Misters did neither, and for that came across as complete asshats on national television. As the AKO pointed out when The Dude got all spun up about this, it’s just a television show, and of course she is 100% correct. It’s more what that sort of behavior represents: it plays into the entire “win at all costs, burn all bridges, screw ’em – they’re losers” sort of philosophy that has become so popular in the last few years (especially among the followers of the elephantine party). The Dude acknowledges that there are situations when this strategy is appropriate (like say, an Alien Invasion) but those situations are generally life or death in nature- short of that, living your life that way is just asking for trouble, because it’s only a matter of time before those you stepped on come back and eat you for lunch. Be gracious in victory, because you never know when you’re going to have to rely on your former opponent as your only ally in a larger conflict. 100 Quatloos to the first person to correctly identify the origin (title and artist) of the 80s song lyrics quoted on the title line without looking it up (ie. cheating).
